Direct Socket System — Same-Day Prosthetics

Get back to moving faster with custom same-day prosthetic solutions. Our in-house lab allows us to design, fabricate, and fit your device in a single visit—so you can start living without delay.

What Is the Direct Socket System?

The Direct Socket System is a breakthrough method of prosthetic socket fabrication. Instead of the traditional multi-week casting and check-socket process, your clinician uses advanced composite materials and on-site lamination to form a definitive, custom socket directly on your limb — in functional alignment, in a single visit.

The result is a precise, comfortable, definitive socket – not a temporary one – delivered the same day you arrive.

Direct Socket System:

Definitive socket delivered in one visit

One appointment — walk out the same day

No check socket — final socket made on-limb
Captured in functional alignment, under load
Faster rehab, less travel, faster independence

Direct Socket System — Same‑Day Legs

Our Direct Socket System enables patients to receive their prosthesis on the same day. Using advanced materials and on‑site lamination, clinicians form the socket directly on the patient’s limb—streamlining the process and improving precision.

This same‑day approach eliminates weeks of waiting. Patients can walk out the same day with a comfortable, secure prosthesis. It’s ideal for jump‑starting rehabilitation sooner, reducing travel, and reaching independence faster.

Additionally, our transfemoral patients are finding that sitting comfort is dramatically improved with the flexible brim integrated into the Direct Socket System. This design blends innovation and practicality—improving comfort, alignment, and efficiency while maintaining high‑quality custom outcomes.

Patients in Motion with Direct Socket Technology

Utilizes an advanced Direct Socket System that enables clinicians to create and fit a custom prosthesis in one visit, ensuring a precise fit directly on the limb so patients can start walking the same day.
These were his first steps in a prosthesis with the Direct Socket System—receiving a custom-fit device in one visit and beginning his path to mobility and independence.

Why Patients Choose the Direct Socket System

One Visit, receive your definitive socket the day you arrive, not months later.

Better Fit, Captured in Motion — The socket is laminated in functional alignment, capturing your true shape under load.

No Check Sockets — Skip the 2–3 rounds of check-socket refittings. Go straight to the definitive device.

Faster Rehab — Start physical therapy and return to daily life sooner.

Less Travel, Less Time Off — Fewer appointments mean less driving and less time away from work or family.

Is the Direct Socket System Right for You?

The Direct Socket System is an excellent option for:

• Recent amputees whose limb has stabilized and is cleared for weight-bearing

• Patients needing a replacement socket who want to skip weeks of fittings

• Below-knee (transtibial) and above-knee (transfemoral) amputees

• Individuals seeking faster return to work, travel, and daily activities

• Patients who have struggled with comfort or repeated remakes on traditional sockets

Some conditions — active wounds, uncontrolled volume change, or fragile skin — may require a different approach. Our clinicians will evaluate your situation and recommend the right path for you.

Certified Össur DSS Provider — Our clinicians have completed Össur’s Direct Socket certification training.

Direct Socket Experience — We have fit hundreds of Direct Sockets across our three South Florida locations.

The Process — How Same-Day Works

Our team has completed hundreds of Direct Socket fittings, and patients consistently tell us the experience is nothing like they expected. Here is what your same-day fitting looks like:

Step 1 — Consultation & Candidacy

We evaluate your limb, activity goals, and medical history to confirm the Direct Socket System is right for you. Most recent amputees and replacement-socket patients are strong candidates.

Step 2 — Casting Liner & On-Limb Preparation

A casting liner and protective silicone sheath are applied to your residual limb. This sets the foundation for a precise, pressure-distributed fit.

Step 3 — Direct Lamination

Composite reinforcement (carbon fiber, nylon fiberglass, or basalt) is layered over the liner and laminated with polyurethane resin directly on your limb — capturing your true shape under functional alignment. The socket cures in minutes.

Step 4 — Fit, Align & Walk Out

Our clinicians fit the definitive socket with your chosen suspension, liner, and foot components. We align, adjust, and train you on its use before you leave — often walking the same day.

Above-Knee Patients — The Flexible Brim Advantage

One of the most consistent pieces of feedback we hear from our transfemoral (above-knee) patients: sitting comfort is transformed. The Direct Socket TF incorporates a flexible brim that moves with your body — not against it.

Traditional above-knee sockets have rigid brims that dig into the groin and thigh when you sit, drive, or bend forward. The flexible brim built into the Direct Socket System flexes as you move, dramatically improving comfort during the activities that matter most — driving, working at a desk, eating dinner, traveling.

This is innovation meeting practicality: better alignment, better comfort, better efficiency — without compromising the strength or precision of a fully custom socket.

Frequently Asked Questions About

Direct Socket System — Same-Day Prosthetics

Do I really walk out the same day with a definitive prosthesis?

Yes. Once your limb is cleared and candidacy is confirmed, the Direct Socket System allows us to fabricate, fit, and align a definitive socket in a single visit — you leave walking.

Is this the same quality as a traditional custom socket?

Yes — and often better. The Direct Socket is a definitive, fully custom socket built with carbon fiber, nylon fiberglass, or basalt composites. Because it’s laminated directly on your limb under functional alignment, many patients report it fits better than traditional sockets.

Is the Direct Socket System covered by insurance?

Yes it is. Our team verifies your benefits before your appointment so there are no surprises.

Can I use my existing components — liner, foot, knee — with a Direct Socket?

In most cases, yes. The Direct Socket System is designed to be compatible with the most common prosthetic components. Your clinician will confirm compatibility during your consultation.

What's the difference between the below-knee (TT) and above-knee (TF) Direct Socket?

Both use the same on-limb lamination process. The TF (above-knee) version adds a flexible brim that significantly improves sitting comfort — a major advantage for transfemoral patients.

Do you offer this at all three Falk locations?

Yes. Direct Socket fittings are available at our Delray Beach, Jupiter, and Hollywood offices. Contact us to schedule at the location closest to you.
