What Is Flat Head Syndrome?

Plagiocephaly and brachycephaly affect up to 50% of infants in some degree. Caught early, helmet therapy is highly effective and treatment is short.
Signs to watch for:

  • A flat spot on the back or side of the head
  • One ear pushed forward compared to the other
  • Head looks uneven when viewed from above
  • Baby consistently turns their head to one side
  • Pediatrician has noted head shape concerns

Best time to start: 4–7 months of age. Early treatment = faster results.

The One Helmet Guarantee

Most providers require two or three helmets to complete treatment — and those additional helmets are typically out-of-pocket, since insurance rarely covers them after the first.
At Falk, we do things differently. When families follow the prescribed wear schedule and attend regular check-ins, we’re confident one helmet is all it takes.

If a second helmet is ever needed, we provide it at no charge.
This guarantee applies to non-surgical cases where the family has been compliant with use and follow-up visits.

One helmet. One guarantee. No surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cranial Helmets

What age is best to start?

4–7 months is the ideal window. The skull is still soft and responds fastest to treatment. We start evaluations at 3 months.

Is there an age cutoff?

Generally, helmet therapy is most effective before 12 months. That said, every baby is different — we’ve seen good outcomes in older infants too. The best way to know is to come in for a free evaluation.

How long does treatment take?

Most babies finish in 3–6 months, with an average of about 4 months. Starting earlier typically means a shorter treatment.

Will my baby need more than one helmet?

In 99%+ of cases, no. The Talee helmet is designed to cover the full course of treatment in one device. And if a second helmet is ever needed, we provide it at no charge.

Does it hurt?

No. The helmet gently guides skull growth — no pressure, no pain. Most babies adjust within the first few days.

How many hours a day does my baby wear it?

23 hours a day. One hour off for bathing and skin checks.

Does insurance cover it?

Coverage varies by plan. Our team verifies your benefits before treatment begins and handles all the paperwork.

Do all three locations offer helmet services?

Yes. Delray Beach, Jupiter, and Hollywood all provide full cranial helmet services with certified clinicians.
